Kairos Outside Coastal…

Being in prison is punishment—for the offender. It is also often punishment for
those left at home and that is especially true for females. Hopefully, you have
heard of Kairos, a Christian ministry inside prison walls for inmates, male and female. St. Mark’s Rose Wilson and Willetta McGowen along with others have been
involved with Kairos over the years. Now there is Kairos Outside, created for
women who have been impacted by having a loved one in incarceration.
Kairos Outside Coastal launches on November 7 for three days of pampering,
love, and connection for mothers, wives, sisters, daughters, and girlfriends who
need a Christian community to encourage them through loneliness, anger, isolation, and rejection from family and friends. Rose is one of 35 team members preparing to present this weekend of love and support at Hillview Campground in
Claxton, sharing God’s unconditional love through prayer, share, and pampering
with food and small gifts. Among many things Rose will take are stacks of pictures
drawn and colored by our Sunday schoolers and from our day school.
St. Mark’s Lions have been very supportive with donations (always appreciated)
and now Rose is asking for your prayers, to create a paper chain inscribed with
names that will encircle the community room where the women gather, a visual
reminder that strangers care and that in a God-filled community, there are no
strangers.
“We want to have constant prayers occurring during the entire weekend, not just
the time we’re together but during the night while we’re sleeping,” Rose said. How
can you take part? Pick 30 minutes between 6:00pm Friday, Nov. 7, and
5:00pm Sunday, Nov. 9, to pray for Kairos Outside. Put that time on your calendar with a phone reminder, tell Rose what time you have picked, and your name
will be added as a link on the chain. How hard can that be?
